Ms. Lisa Michl  


Lisa Michl is a self employed professional visual artist with family connections to Kowanyama in western Cape York and Normanton.

Her career includes holding various positions in the Arts field. She was the Indigenous Arts Officer at Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns, an Indigenous Arts tutor for TAFE Banggu Minjaany Arts and cultural Centre Cairns, and the Indigenous Arts Officer for Cairns City Council ‘Graft n Arts’ community arts space.

Lisa is the Chairperson of the Board of UMI Arts, and has been involved in other Arts related committees including the National Indigenous Arts Code of Conduct Steering Committee with the Australia Council for the Arts, and the Queensland Backing Indigenous Arts Reference group.

In addition to her membership of the Leadership Academy, Lisa is also a member of the Indigenous Environment Foundation and a Board member of the Kokoberrin Aboriginal Corporation.

Her Arts practice has won her several awards, and she has exhibited in Australia and overseas. Lisa was one of the artists who represented Australia at the Festival of Pacific Arts in Samoa, has her work acquired by the Australian Embassy in Germany and the Australian Artbank, and in 2006 she was awarded the Yvonne Cohen Award for Creative Indigenous Australian Youth from the Wilin Centre at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne.
